As a Medical Laboratory Technician you are trained to work in a variety of clinical institutions or settings. Our program prepares you to make an impact on patient lives from day one.

As laboratory professionals, we are the science and chemistry behind the blood work and laboratory testing practitioners use to make diagnoses, make therapeutic decisions, or to monitor patients' health and wellness. We are part of the health care team, just not as visible to the patient as most of our work is done behind the scenes. 

Advance Your Career

Students in the SSU Med Lab program not only gain hands-on experience through practical training in their last semester, but they also build a career with possibilities for advancement. A degree from our program can be a springboard to career advancement or pursuit of a higher degree and certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).

Many SSU MLT graduates begin to work immediately upon graduation, while others continue their education to attend professional schools.

Find Success in Many Fields

As a Shawnee State Medical Laboratory Technology graduate, you'll have the option to work in hospital labs independently with very little orientation as well as in clinics, doctors' offices, and commercial labs. You can also choose to build on your skills, using them to obtain a four year degree. As an SSU MLT graduate, you will develop strong skills to be successful in virtually any science-related field. 

Get Board Certified

After graduating from Shawnee State with an Associate of Applied Science Degree with a major in Medical Laboratory Technology, students are eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) exam offered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
